Mountain Guide - Andy
Cave - has made numerous important first ascents on rock, mixed
and on the highest peaks. In 1993 Andy climbed French 8a and 8000m.
In 1997 he made the first onsight free ascent of Citadel on Shelterstone
with Janez Jeglic and the first ascent of the North Face of Changabang
in the Garwhal Himalaya. Andy has climbed hard new winter routes
on Ben Nevis, in Glencoe and on the Isle of Skye. As a cutting edge
alpinist Andy has made very early ascents of hard routes on Mont
Blanc including the Freney Pillar directissima as well as Divine
Providence which is considered one of the hardest routes in the
Alps. In the Dolomites Andy has climbed many extreme routes including
The Fish on the south face of the Marmolada, Brandler-Hasse on the
Cima Grande and the Rudolph Bauer on the Cima Ovest. In 1998 Andy
climbed new routes in Norway, the Outer Hebrides as well as two
new hard extremes - Birdsong on Yorkshire Gritstone and Bats in
the Belfry at Gogarth as well as numerous Peak District new routes
near his home. In 1999 Andy featured in the BBC TV series Wild Climbs
by award winning filmmaker Richard Else about new routes in the
Czech Republic. By early in December 1999 Andy had already done
two new winter routes in Scotland at grade VI.
Andy's high profile and outstanding reputation
makes him a valuable member of Team Lowe Alpine.
