What are the benefits of Triple Point and Triple Point Ceramic?

Why do lots of different fabrics all carry the Triplepoint name?
What you're seeing is the outer or 'face' fabric to which the Triplepoint or Triplepoint Ceramic inner coating is added. The technology is now so advanced that these coatings can be applied to a whole range of face fabrics, each with its own set of properties. When designing a garment, we consider carefully how it will be used and then specify a face fabric that will perform best in those conditions.

How should I look after my Triplepoint or Triplepoint Ceramic garment?
Like everything else, these fabrics can eventually show signs of wear. A lot depends on how often you use them and in what conditions. Triplepoint Ceramic fabrics are inherently more durable, but you can expect prolonged use from both types. Accumulations of dirt and grease do hinder the breathing process, though, so it's important to wash apparel from time to time. A hangtag attached to each new garment gives advice on how best to care for the fabric.

How warm are jackets made from Triplepoint and Triplepoint Ceramic?
Both are shell fabrics, which means their primary role is to protect the insulating Aleutian layer from wind and rain. If you want an all-in-one jacket, choose apparel that is 'zip-in compatible' so you can add a semi-permanent warm lining.

Given that the coating is applied to the inner face of the fabric, why is there a need for a water-repellent finish on the outside?
It's true that the inner coating is the main barrier against water. But applying a DWR (Durable Water Repellency) finish to the outer face helps shed water that might otherwise clog up the weave and choke the breathing process. DWR also prevents the fabric from saturating and thus becoming stiff during freezing conditions.

Who Designs and Tests Lowe Alpine gear:

Before a Lowe Alpine product reaches the shops you can be assured that it has undergone an extensive testing program that takes a number of years and a lot of specialist expertise. Initially we work with technical fabric manufacturers and innovators to produce the right fabric for the right job, our fabric technologist (Trudy Watson) works with the manufacturer of the fabric to put it through its paces and get it tested in laboratory conditions. All of the fabric suppliers that we work with employ internationally recognised textile testing facilities for their products. When we have found fabrics that we feel may be suitable, Trudy then employs various independent testing facilities to ensure that fabrics continue to perform to our high level of expectations. We use the British Textile Technology Group (BTTG), (EMPA), Precision Process Textiles (PPT), Intertek Testing Services (ITS) amongst many others who are renown for their knowledge.

When we first develop a fabric we make it up into a garment and get it tested in the field by some of our team of professional mountain athletes. We produce a number of these garments to ensure that they are tested in different environments, for example, a waterproof, breathable jacket will perform differently in warm and wet conditions compared to cold and damp conditions.

Alongside this fabric development, our designers work on ideas for products – these ideas come from a variety of sources. Each part of Lowe Alpine provides a brief on what products their markets would like to see and as Lowe Alpine is sold in over 30 countries this can be a tall order with just one range! Feedback from the retail and retail buyers who are experts in outdoor gear. We look at gaps in the market place and try to create products unique to Lowe Alpine. We also follow current market and fashion trends to ensure that styles and colours are right for the season – this can be a complex business when packs and apparel are often designed no less than 1 year and often nearly 2 years ahead of when you see them in your outdoor store.

We rely very heavily on the expertise of our own staff and Team Lowe Alpine – our group of professional mountain athletes. Utilising this expertise in the field of mountaineering the process of product and design revision continues throughout the development of the product and continues so that products can be revised and improved for the next season.

We hope that when we’ve designed a product right you won’t know you’re wearing or carrying it and then you can just concentrate on enjoying the moment.

How does wicking Dryflo work
DryFlo uses a permanent process to wick moisture away from the skin, instead of relying on chemical treatment that can eventually wash out. DryFlo is knitted from two different deniers of polyester filament, thicker filaments on the inside, thinner on the outside. This pulls moisture to the outside of the fabric where it can evaporate, leaving you dry and comfortable.

Because DryFlo is made from hydrophobic 100% polyester, this results in a wicking process that does not absorb moisture (unlike cotton). DryFlo is a great fabric for year round use, keeping you warm in winter and comfortable in summer.

Why should I use Desertweave over cotton garments
Desertweave® technical nylon fabrics are tough, packable, compressible and light in weight. For life on the road, crease-resistance and easy care (non-iron) performance are essential. Desertweave® is ultra quick-drying, with durable wicking or water resistant treatments depending on end usage.

How can I get my garment repaired or get replacement parts:
Please contact your distributor who will be able to supply replacement parts or arrange for a repair for you.

Questions concerning Lowe Alpine warranties/guarantee:
I have a problem with my product who should I contact? I bought it on holiday and can’t get back to the shop.
Please contact the retailer that you bought the product from – they will be able to help you sort out your problem. If you purchased it whilst in another part of your country, contact the retailer in the first instance and follow their instructions.

Why does Triplepoint only have a 2 year guarantee?
Triplepoint fabric is guaranteed to be waterproof and breathable for a period of two years from date of purchase. If you are not satisfied with the fabric performance, return the garment to the store where it was purchased. If found to be defective, we will repair or replace at our option. This guarantee does not cover damage caused by accidents or misuse. Notes: For outdoor professionals and for arduous activities such as expedition climbing, we recommend Triplepoint® Ceramic garments. The garment is also covered by the Lowe Alpine lifetime guarantee.

Am I entitled to a new product if mine has a fault?
We very rarely receive faulty product, so we look at every case on its individual merits. Contact your local distributor who will advise you of the best course of action – they will then either repair or replace the product at their discretion.

What is Lowe Alpine’s policy on sponsorship:
Lowe Alpine likes to do everything possible to encourage and support such ventures and we are proud that our name inspires people to contact us.

However, as we get a large number of requests from people contacting us regarding the availability of sponsorship – on average 20 requests per week from the UK alone.

Most regrettably, due to the huge number of enquiries regularly received, we are simply not able to provide as much assistance as we would like. We would therefore ask you to contact us about sponsorship only if you are able to fully consider the following:

  • Is your trip/expedition something different or unique? eg something that has never been achieved/attempted before.
  • In what way do you feel you are contributing to the environment/ mountaineering world?
What contacts have you made with regards to media coverage and which of the media you have contacted has guaranteed coverage? This may include national press, internet, TV, radio, specialist magazines.
  • What experience do you have that makes you particularly suitable for what you are planning to achieve?
  • What can you offer Lowe Alpine in return?

Please note that Lowe Alpine do not support holiday trips.

Lowe Alpine supports a number of regional, national and international charities and organisations that are in line with our mission statement and company ethos; therefore we are not able to sponsor charity treks/bike rides.

If you feel that you can fulfil our criteria and would like to be considered for support please contact your local distributor.
