When Lowe Alpine first introduced the length-adjustable back system in 1967 the objective was simple; comfort.

Since then this principle has become accepted and copied the world over. However, one simple problem is still encountered by consumers; which is the right back length position for me? How do I know that my pack is correctly fitted?

The process in arriving at the correct back length can be one of trial and error. Lowe Alpine’s APS adjustment is simple, but even an experienced user can be unsure which adjustment point is correct. Also, without expert help, a consumer can select the wrong size with resulting discomfort and
dissatisfaction with the product.

Introducing Lowe Alpine’s Torso Fit® System
The Torso Fit® System allows retail staff to quickly help the consumer determine their correct back length for Lowe Alpine packs. The system is quick and easy, and works in conjunction with new color-coding applied to Lowe Alpine length-adjustable back systems.

The Torso Fit System consists of a simple measuring device. Back measurement and adjustment takes 4 simple steps.

1. Place on Hip Point
The customer locates his/her hip point through the location hole. This represents the hip position 1/3 from top of pack waistbelt.

2. Adjust
The sliding head unit locates in the center of the shoulder.

3. Read
Read off the color code in the window. If the measurement falls in between colors, select the nearest.

4. Adjust Pack
Each bar represents color-coded webbing on Lowe Alpine’s APS® packs. Adjust the APS® back accordingly.
